Email Lists

The UUCB has automated email lists available free to everyone who has Internet and email access. These lists are an easy way to get information out fast, and to receive timely announcements regarding church events and other news.

  • The main group is uucb @ yahoogroups.com and is only for church and member-related announcements. This includes announcement of events or reminders of upcoming meetings, requests for help on a project, minutes of meetings, notices of someone's illness or memorial service, and requests for personal help. This list is not to be used for events unrelated to the church, ongoing discussion, opinion, or conversation.
  • A second popular group is uucbd @ yahoogroups.com. This list is for announcements of events outside the church, such as social action or environmental programs that might be of interest to the church community. It is also a forum for discussion and airing of opinions, political, personal or otherwise.
  • There are other email lists specific to individual groups at UUCB. Check the yahoogroups.com website for more information.

To subscribe:
Send a blank message to uucb-subscribe@yahoogroups.com (or uucbd-subscribe@yahoo groups.com if you want to be on that list, too). You will receive a confirmation email. Simply reply with a blank message and you will be added to the list.

Alternatively, you can go to the yahoogroups Web site to sign up. There you can get an ID and see the addresses of others on the list. You can also change your email preferences — such as having the email sent daily in one digest message. You can look up old messages from the past year in the archive there. You can also check out the other UUCB groups available, as well as groups outside the church.

You can go also read posted messages directly by visiting the yahoo Web sites for the two groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uucb/ and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uucbd/.

To unsubscribe:
Follow the instructions that appear at the bottom of each message you receive from the list.

To post a message to everyone in the group:
Send it to uucb @ yahoogroups.com (or uucbd.) To reply to just the sender of the message use "Reply" on your email program. To reply to the whole group use "Reply All." Check the address to make sure it's going where you want it to.

To upload a file for sharing with the group:
Occasionally, you may want to share an important church document with members of the email list, but you cannot attach files to our church email messages. The solution might be to upload the file into the Yahoogroups space for our church and then send out the information about the file in an email message. Read more information about how to upload files to Yahoo.

Note: You must be a member of the list to send messages on it or upload files. You must email from the address you signed up with, but you can have multiple addresses if you want to send from both home and work. In an effort to limit the spread of computer viruses, attachments and links are not allowed — a message containing either will fail to send.

Use your best "netiquette" on the list:
It's not a place for personal attacks, flaming, or malicious gossip. Never write anything you wouldn't want everyone to see later. Also, please remember not everyone in the church is on the list. This is a powerful tool for communication, but some people choose not to participate or don't have email.
