Congregational Enrichment
Groups & Activities
UUCB has several groups and activities geared towards
personal and spiritual development along with socializing, as detailed
below. To participate, contact the appropriate
person listed in the church newsletter for
that group or activity.
Other groups — such as for birding, bridge playing, and poetry — become
active when there is enough interest in the congregation.
To start a new
social group or activity, simply announce it to the congregation through
the newsletter, email
list, or in the Sunday service
announcements.
- Adult Religious Education — Classes and workshops
on spiritual and social action topics. Read
more.
- All-Church Retreat — A weekend retreat in the
mountains for all ages. Read more.
- Chalice Circles — Small groups of church members
who have something in common to discuss, like an
issue, an idea, or an interest, and who regularly meet for these discussions
and to get to know each other better. Read
more.
- Choir — Our choir usually sings twice a month
and presents two all-music worship services a year. Read
more.
- Circle Suppers and Tea Houses — Social events
with food that are held in church members' homes to foster community
and let us get to know each other better. Circle Suppers (planned potlucks)
are on the first Saturday night of the month, and Tea Houses (open houses
where guests bring finger foods) are held in the afternoon on the third
Sunday of the month.
- Fifty-Five Plus Group — This group is open to
any church "elder." It meets at 11:45 a.m. on the second Thursday
of each month at UUCB for a potluck lunch and program, typically
on a topic of interest to the community or the wider world. Special
events during the year include a June picnic and a story-telling program
in December.
- Men's Fellowship Group — Men's social group that
meets monthly in member's homes for a happy/social hour, potluck,
and sharing of lives. This group also sponsors an annual retreat, usually
in the mountains, and other events, such as
our annual Homecoming Barbecue in the fall. Newcomers
are welcome.
- Spanish Conversational Group — Co-sponsored by Intercambio de Comunidades. Meets from noon to 1:00 p.m. after the church service on the second and fourth Sundays of the month for friendly talk and resource sharing. This is a good opportunity for those who already know some Spanish to practice in an informal setting. We welcome drop-ins and new people.
- Women’s Book Group — Meets on the second
Friday of the month at noon at UUCB to talk about the selected book being
read. Feel free to bring your lunch. We welcome new members.
- Women's Spirituality Circle — The Wednesday
Goddesses
meets on the first Wednesday of each month at UUCB from 7 to 9
p.m. Any women interested in exploring different aspects of
feminine spirituality are welcome.
- Young Adults — Social
events, like concerts, hikes,
and parties, for UUs 18-35 years of age. Also regularly meets
for lunch after the church service on the first Sunday of each month. Check
out the online bulletin board for updates on YA happenings:
