UUCB Public Forum
May 20, 2012 7:00 PMRabbi Jamie Korngold
, who has created her calling as Boulder's own "Adventure Rabbi", has recently authored: "THE GOD UPGRADE: Finding Your 21st-Century Spirituality in Judaism's 5000-Year-Old Tradition".Rabbi Korngold is joining the distinguished legacy of those you have challenged the concepts of God which have clearly evolved over the centuries of monotheism from Judaism, Christianity to Islamic points of view.
This UUCB Forum presentation will look at ways God concepts have been upgraded and with humor and enthusiam Korngold explains how aligning our understanding of God with modern sensibilities and knowledge of interconnected ways of living on Planet Earth, Judaism and for that matter Unitarian - Universalism and perhaps Christianity can lead towards more compatible lives in the 21st Century.
Following the program, the UUCB Forum will host a reception for Rabbi Korngold and members and friends will have a opportunity to purchase her latest books and learn more about the Colorado based Adventure Rabbi program. www.adventurerabbi.org
Social Justice Movie Night: Two Movies about the Transgender Experience
Faces and Facets of TransGender Experience
is a movie in which eighteen people and their families share touching stories about the journey from despair to loss to the joy of being the gender they were meant to be.Two Spirits interweaves the tragic story of a mother’s loss of her son with a revealing look at a time when the world wasn’t simply divided into male and female and many Native American cultures held places of honor for people of integrated genders. Fred Martinez was nádleehí, a malebodied person with a feminine nature, a special gift according to his ancient Navajo culture. But the place where two discriminations meet is a dangerous place to live, and Fred became one of the youngest hatecrime victims in modern history when he was brutally murdered at sixteen. Between tradition and controversy, sex and spirit, and freedom and fear, lives the truth—the bravest choice you can make is to be yourself.
(short discussion to follow each movie)
