Religious Education for ChildrenUsing the national UU Association's professionally developed curriculum "Stories About God," children in the preschool religious education (RE) program (ages 3-5) learn about a variety of God images that are in harmony with our UU principles. Children of this age range may choose to stay in the nursery if they are more comfortable there. RE classes for children in grades 1-5 use the UUA curriculum "Holidays and Holy Days" to begin learning about the traditions and beliefs of different religions. Students also start examining the seven UU principles:
The grade school curriculum calls for alternating between studying different world religions one year, and then studying UU principles and traditions the next year. Sometimes classes are divided into different age range groupings, depending on the number of children of each age in RE that year. Note: We provide general child care during the summer months, but no formal classes. For more information about what's happening in the grade school RE classes, check the "Religious Education" column in the church newsletter.
